Remembering and learning and praying…

Today many U.S. citizens remember, ponder, and reflect on this day eighteen years ago, September 11th. My prayers and love are extended to everyone whose lives were changed that day. September 2001 was my first year as a teacher, beginning my re-entry into the profession after a 30 year absence, at a parochial school in Chicago. My first month of teaching. It was a day I felt blessed that I could easily offer prayers with my students. I remember how odd it was when I drove home from school. The afternoon presented a bright, sunny, blue sky. a scene that did not reflect the pain and horrors and fears that we were feeling. And I remember how, when I called my parents to check on them, they calmly and sadly said, “We’ve lived through this before.” I was stunned by their words. To me this was the worst thing that had ever happened to the U.S.A. But they, had experienced a longer history than I and remembered Pearl Harbor’s attack. Today I pray for the U.S.A and for EVERYONE in the world that suffer pains, fears, and stresses of terror. May we all hold each other today in love. May we all be kind to everyone we know and passing today. We we all realize the blessings in our life. And may our gratitutes overcome our sadness. Amen. Copyright 2019 Pamela Breitberg
