Not your average button…

I almost walked right past this little, one inch, thing on the beach thinking it was a broken piece of a Portuguese Man of War. My curious nature prevailed however and I paused long enough to realize it was distinctively unique from anytihng I’d seen before. This tiny little disc with blue tenacles is called a Blue Button. It is a distant cousin of the Man of War and like them it is considered an animal and feeds on small marine animals, Zooids, catching them with their poisonous tenacles. Both Blue Button and By the Wind Sailors shown in a previous post are not related to Jelly Fish. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
The perfectly round disc with radiating lines is another amazing evidence for me of a supreme greater being. I am humbled by the endless designs found in nature. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
Blue Buttons are hydra-like animal eating tiny animals called Zooids. This image shows their small size , small enough that surrounding individual grains of sand are clearly seen when the composition is focused on this tiny creature. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
