September 14, 2020 Pamela Breitberg What do you see… Look at this image and then decide what/who is the subject. Years ago I docutmented a prairie restoration project at the Chicago Botanic Gardens and this was one image made during the winter months. I’m sharing this image because life has kept me housebound the past month. Should be out and about this week. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg ANSWER: When I’d use this image in my Science lab as an “observation” exercise most of my young students, including my daughter (who was the first to comment at home about this image) saw in the photo an animal…usually a rat. In truth, the image is of fallen LEAVES; some lit by the sun while the one in the lower part of the image still has morning frost. My daughter’s reaction when I was going to include this image in an exhibition said, “Why would you put a picture of a dead rat in the show?” Until that comment it had never shown that possible appearance to me. It is a great example of how multiple persons can observe the same thing and “see” different things.
