Decorative and useful…

Red to deep green are the colors of Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco) leaves. The leaves emerge as red and gradually turn green. The young leaves have always hit me as “oh, so cute”. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
Cocoplum flowers are quite tiny and unspectacular; blooms are most prominent in the late spring. These shrubs are often used as hedges along commercial and residential properties. They are manageable and tolerate a variety of soils and light conditions.  Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
Late spring shows new leaves emerging while flowers also blooming on Cocoplum shrubs. To provide a perspecitve of this plant, the leaves are only about one inch long when mature. Coopyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
When flowers are done blooming, their fruit matures. Cocoplum produce a stone fruit which is edible, though quite small like the flowers. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
