Traditional childhood happiness…

State Street, as seen from Macy’s Walnut Room. Tradition has us dining once here “under the tree”, though this time we were seated by a window looking out to State Street. This allowed us to watch the family diners celebrate this most special tradtion. When Macy’s took over the Marshall Fields’ loop store they were careful to keep functioning the Walnut Room and it’s Christmas tree traditons. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
Every year the anticipation of seeing how this majestic tree will be decorated is intense. This year white dominated the theme along with some special non-human observers. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
This view gives a truer perscpective of it’s massive height. Though I haven’t been a child in years, chronologically anyway, I am still awe struck seeing it’s beauty. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
My perspective of the tree and bear while standing next to both. The Christmas Tree at the Walnut Room is worth a view, even if you don’t eat there. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
Tip Toe” is the theme of Macy’s windows this year. A tradtition in Chicago’s loop as well as in any large city’s department stores in the U.S., is to view the windows around the outside of the store(s). In Chicago one must be bundled up with coat, scarf, mittens and hat in order to freeze less as you walk around all four walls of windows outside of a large store, usually a square block in size. These windows seemed cheerier this year to me. Or I was perhaps just ready to enjoy JOY this year more so than in the past. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg

One of these magical, traditional window is to the right of this image. Equally tradtional for the old Marshall Fields store, now Macy’s, is the collection of holiday trumpets. Historic tradition in the city of Chicago’s loop always has been the presence of the famous Clock at the corner of Macy’s (formerly Marshall Fields) and the Chicago Theater in the distance. Traditions seem more dear this special time of year; tradtions celebrated and enjoyed with loved ones is most cherished. I treasure such memories I’ve shared today more so than any physical gift recieved. These moments warm my heart. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg
