Quiet reminder…

Lenten Rose (Helleborus orientalis) is appropriately named as it blooms at the end of winter through early spring: during the Lenten season. This shade loving perennial has flowers that seem to humbly tilt downward. The colors of the flowers are subtle so easy to miss when sunlight speckles the scene. Perhaps, like one’s faith, one must become aware of their presence to see them.  Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
These were in my sister’s garden outside of Nashille, Tennessee. I have tried to grow them in my Chicago-land garden without success; winters here are too harsh. Every part of a Lenten Rose plant is poisonous: an interesting fact for this ecclesiastical named bloom. Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
Getting down on my knees is the best way to see the Lenten Rose flowers as they grow low to the ground and the flowers seem to bow their heads. For more info read here. Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
