A Peddler in Heidleberg, Germany entertaining pedestrians while offering small trinkets for sale. He stayed the full day on these church steps all day, waiting patiently for someone to be interested in his wares. His appearance and setting led me to wonder about his “story”. Copyright 2019 Pamela BreitbergVendors surround Heidleberg’s Church of the Holy Spirit in the market place. The church dates back as far as 1398; a fact hard for this American to comprehend. It humbles me. Though this is in the center of the old market place, it did surprise me that peddlers literally surrounded the church and used the steps to sell their wares. They did not spill into the church’s sacred interior space; but this use of church space outside did give me pause. Heidleberg remains a most treasured place to visit for me.
