Living across from a forest preserve for thirty years reinforced in this wildlife lover a passion for native plants and animals. I felt honored whenever a native forest plant would choose to jump the road and become established in my garden. After a long snow covered winter I would be thrilled to find a handful of Jack in the Pulpits (Arisaema triphyllum) standing upright seeming to be quietly waiting for someone to notice their presence. They are native to the midwest and known by many other names, but I prefer Jack in the Pulpit because it causes me to pause and think of the many wonders of nature. It’s presence is an unspoken sermon. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg (photo from 2010)
