Tradition in fall plantings…

Ornamental Cabbages have been a fall garden trend the past number of years in Chicago and the Midwest. Green with purple in the center they compliment many other fall annual plantings. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
This Chrysanthemum bud has opened just enough to catch some of the morning’s light rain. Mums are considered hardy in Chicago which at first I believed them to be perennials; but although they do continue to bloom through frosts, but do not survive Chicago winters to return the next year.

I always enjoy seeing the process of a flower’s opening up to full bloom. It doesn’t happen all at once. Perhaps each pedal has it’s own mind about when to stretch out. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
Of course an autumn planting in the garden is complete with the addition of colorful autumn fallen leaves. Yellow is the complement to purple so artists appreciate nature’s creative compostion. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
