Great native… Pamela Breitberg 3 years ago The Great Rhododendron, aka Rosebay Rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) is indeed a great native tree/shrub of the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. This evergreen has a proliferation of blooms 3/4 of the year, unlike the varieties I grew up with in the Midwest that were considered a springtime bloom. What a wonderful treat to see their showy flowers throughout the mountains. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg. July, mid summer, continues the production of Rhododendrun buds ensuring more and more flower clusters. Read more information here. Copyright 2021 Pamela Breitberg Atop the mighty Mt. Pisgah gave me a wide angle view of the misty clouds quickly covering other parts of the Smoky Mountains. Complimenting the ever “smoky”, misty, clouds are the lush pale blooms of the Great Rhododendrun.
