Depth of field changes the compostion. Besides deciding how much on each side and top and bottom to include in a scene, the amount of clear focus in image also impacts the photograph or painting. Here, the Yellow Coneflowers are clearly the main subject since they are the only thing in the photograph that is clearly in focus. In a way this is a portrait of these flowers. The mood of the image is much different from the first image. Which do you prefer? Neither image is better or worse but merely artistic choice in design and composition. The flowers are clearly in focus while the background goes softly out of focus. But the mottled sunlight in the background does draw our attention to the sunlit trees as well as the flowers.
