Here, a Passion Butterfly (Dione vanillae) feeds on Fire-star Orchid (Epidendrum radicans). The Passion Butterfly, aka, Gulf Fritillary, has always intrigued me. They are known for their long wings, which to me, makes them incredible fliers. I rarely see them at rest; so I was thrilled to get this image. This image was inside the incredible Butterfly World in south Florida. I am drawn there for the lush, diverse flora as well as the butterflies. Fire-star Orchid is apparently considered a weed in Central America. I was grateful that morning to see the orange flowers accompanied by the orange butterfly. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
