Contradictory in nature and name…

These sweet red flowers belong to the Thornless Crown of Thorns. Yes, that’s the nickname for Euphorbia geroldii. I suppose it’s less confusing than the many “pseudo” named species who equally haven’t earned themselves unique names. But a Thornless Crown of Thorns just sounds like a plant past its prime. This is another species that prefers the tropical habitat of a dry forest, as mentioned in my previous post of the cacti. Nature can be confusing and amazing. Add to this information that this hot, dry environment-lover blooms almost continuously,  which is rare for desert species. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
