Lesser knowns…

It’s not a sun-bleached flower that’s lost its color toward the end of its bloom. Meet the Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida). Nestled in a garden setting at the North Carolina Arboretum, it stood out among the grey stone backdrop. Pale Purple Coneflower is another perennial native of the U.S. though less well known than the often used Purple Coneflower.  Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
Native to the Ozarks in the Midwest is the Yellow Coneflower (Echinacea paradoxa). This was also spotted on my visit to North Carolina. Prior to spotting these Coneflowers I was naively unaware of the varities of this common Prairie species. Celebrate your uniquenesses. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg

This Coneflower has the identifier of the “cone” shaped center. There are ten species of this prairie native. Read about their variety here. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
