Thinking back to earlier times this year, when cool weather was a regular occurance, this morning has me sharing this image. One of my favorite springtime bloom in my perrenial bed was Cranesbill (Geranium). The plant was a dependable groundcover, spreading gracefully over the years. The pale purple flowers reminded me that warmer days had arrived and winter’s chill was fading. This Geranium is quite different from the annual red Geranium often used as a summer potted plant outside one’s front door. The common name, Cranesbill, comes from the fruit that resembles a Crane’s head and bill (beak). Nature holds so many wondrous beauties; each is special in its own way. I have enjoyed both kinds of Geraniums; but my heart warms when I see the arrival of the spring blossoms of the perennial. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
