The delicate white flowers of this aggresive vine, often on shady, moist slopes, provided the name of Virgin Bower (Clematis virginiana). Another nickname for this vine is Devil’s Darning Needles which references the long, hooked stamen. Quite a contrast in perspective of this plant. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergThe Smoky Mountain’s Blue Ridge Parkway hosted this generous clump of Virgin’s Bower. Traveler’s Joy is a more obvious name since it is native to the eastern U.S., so easily seen at the edges of woodlands. Still beautiful and in this location it is most welcome. Love and care to all in recovering from Hurricane Helene’s rath; and prayers. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
