While near Nashville the spring flowering trees were showing off. Here a Branford Pear (Pyrus calleryana) shines in the morning sunshine. Lately, Bradford Pears have become less popular because of their aggressive growth accompanied by their weak wood. Both characteristics make for a less than grand choice for one’s garden. But the flowers are lovely. Copyright 2025 Pamela BreitbergSpringtime flowers are always a welcome site. Copyright 2025 Pamela BreitbergBeginning to bloom was this Red Bud (Cercis silquastrum). As I drive the highway north, my road traveled this time of year is suddenly brightened by these tiny pink/red flowers clearly showing themselves against the winter’s browns. It is also known as the Judas tree: read here. The background shows more Red Buds in bloom. Copyright 2025 Pamela BreitbergEmerging from under the winter Ivy ground cover is Vinca Minor flowers. I always welcomed their bloom in my garden. These are from near Nashville where I saw the flowering trees. Perhaps they’re competing for attention, asking you to look downward. Or are they celebrating springtime too? Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
