I first learned of the Columbine plant when I spent a summer working in Colorado; the Blue Columbine is the state flower and prominent in the mountains. The primary flower that I see in the midwest is the Eastern Red Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis). This spring blooming native is also known as Canada Columbine and Wild Columbine.
