Growing up to six feet tall, it competes for attention even inside fields of Tall Bluestem Grasses. Here, at Lurie Gardens in Chicago, it has established itself as a star. Pioneers erroneously thought it would relieve rattlesnake bites. The only real use was by Native American to construct ancient shoes.
