When the large, sausage-like pods burst, the small winged-like seeds float through air dispursing themselves as far as the wind will carry them. This Cattail (Typha latifolia) has burst open. Peaking around the Cattail is the Caldwell Lily Pond. Once the Lincoln Park Rookery the pond is now its own entity.
I’ve waited two years to walk around the Caldwell Lily Pond hidden inside Lincoln Park, Chicago. Its presence is not a secret, but its location and entrance are unassuming. There was a much-needed renovation of the Pond and the Alfred Caldwell designed pavillion. Here Cattail rest at the eastern edge of the pond.
