Unusual knees…

In swamp lands like the Everglades it’s common to see these bumps rising from the earth. They are the Knees of Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum). It is controversial as to their purpose. Originally they were believed to help aerate the trees’ roots. A more accepted belief today is that they help stabalize these wet-feet trees. And the debate of their purpose still continues.
