This morning, these adorable Sanderlings (Calidris alba) did not move as I approached. They just stared at me as though they dared for me to ask them to move. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergSanderlings, a small Sand Piper, are usually quite active running back and forth by the water’s edge on the beach as they hunt equally small crabs and insects. I had to wonder with their lack of acitvity if they’d recently arrived south for the winter; they actually nest quite far from southern Florida, in the Arctic. Read about them here. Happy New Year everyone. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
