For multiple days in a row, I watched as this lone Gull stayed close by a group of Sanderlings. As they moved down the beach, the Gull moved along with them. Did it feel a need to act as caregiver to these tiny avian? I don’t think it thought of itself as a Sanderling because it stayed a little distance from the group and did not do the Sanderling run back and forth with the tides as they hunted. I suppose we all need someone to care for us. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
