This plant has showy bracts (showy leaves that surround the flowers) and tiny, waxy, flowers. Three flowers rest inside of each large pink bract. Bougainvillea is a common, popular plant in the subtropical South Florida. It is used as a vine, shrub or tree. In the subtropics it is evergreen and blooms yearlong, reinforcing why Bougainvillea is so popular. The brightly colored shades of the bracts reinforce the subtropical theme. This plant has variegated leaves while other varieties are solid green. This situation reminds me of Hydrangea color variations. Bouganvillea prefers subtropical humidy while needing little water. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
