Santa is not the only one that has a round belly and a wide smile. Hotei, the Japanese Buddha, is the God of Happiness. This tribute to Hotei is at the most special Morikami Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida. Hotei rests quietly on the pathway around the Garden’s lake, bringing a smile to each visitor. And yes, I do often rub his belly for “luck”. Yes, he does remind me to stop and smile inside my being as well as outside. My father’s travels did include visits to Japan, so I’m sure my Hotei was from such a visit. Copyright 2024I visited Morikami Gardens last Wednesday. Needing a real dose of calm and healing, I remembered the precious Morikami Gardens. Few places are so peaceful and refreshing and assuring with nature’s soothing presence.
