Hedgehog bristles…

The Greek work for Coneflower (Echinacea) is “ekhinos” meaning “Hedgehog” due to the flower’s spiny looking seedheads that form towards the end of its bloom cycle. I always left mine standing all winter so the Goldfinch and other birds could dine on the seeds. They also looked great when snowcovered the “coneheads”. Read more here.
