On the eastern edge of the Caldwell Lily Pond was this juvenile fruit tree. Searching online, it seems to be Persimmon. However.they would only be native and hardy in Southern Illinois. Oaks and Hackberrys are the primary native trees and shrubs around the Caldwell Lily Pond. Prairie grasses and plants are thriving around the pond as well. A precious haven for wildlife.
