Creative play…

Some art friends and I decided to paint something food related using technique and/or media that was different for our usual ways. I chose to use up some drying paint on my palette and a palette knife for this exercise. The subject is an old, favorite blue glass cookie jar. The paints on my palette dictated the colors. I have rarely used a palette knife when painting and never used one exclusively to create a piece until now. It felt great to just play with what I had on hand and not think too seriously; though I did try to remember elements of painting that I’ve learned the past four years. Looking at it now it reminds me of finger painting play when a child; the one messy activity that my mother somehow not only allowed but encouraged at our kitchen table. Play is renewing and fun and not to be forgotten just because we’re “grown”. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
