Late summer bloomer…

This Sunflower is known as a False Sunflower (Helioposis helianthoides). A nicer name for this flower is Oxeye. It is a native perennial rhizome. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
Oxeye is a late summer, early fall, bloomer. These were part of the natives fond along the edges of the Caldwell Lily Pond. They seem to be literally soaking up the yellows of the sunshine. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
Autumn marks the end of the bloom season for most Chicago perennials. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
These particular blooms were fairly close to the ground. Oxeye blooms can reach upward to 59 inches on their stems. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
