More than wet feet…

Cochem, Germany sits along the banks of the Moselle River. It has survived multiple major floods over the course of it’s history. The dates on the wall on the right of this image notes dates and show the actual flood level reached on these buildings on those specific dates. I was struck by the continued survival and renewal of this quaint village. Those flood levels seem much greater disasters than the ones that seem “historically” devastating in certain flood prone areas of the U.S. These dates compared to ones in the next image show that flooding has been an issue over much of the Cochem’s history. This dates on the side of this building in Cochem, Germany do not relate to the building per se; it notes flood levels of the town (and this building) on certain dates. Copyright 2019 Pamela Breitberg
