Autumn sweetness…

This flowering vine, Sweet AutumnClematis (Clematis terniflora) decorated a stretch of exterior fencing along the Marovitz Golf Course in Lincoln Park. Unlike neighborhing prairie plantings the Sweet Autumn Clematis is a Eurasian nonnative. Chicago is far enough north that the plant is not invasive, unlike in Florida where it’s labeled as a Category II invasive plant. It’s delicate flower with just a few pedals had me guessing as to it’s name; I had not considered it to be one of many many Clematis grown in Chicago each year. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
