Variety in wildlife…

I “assumed” that this was a juvenile Green Heron, but learned that Lincoln Park hosts yet another Heron type. Here is a young Yellow-crowned Heron (Nyctanassa violacea). This blog and the learning that goes into verifying my posts is rewarding for me as I continue my learning and being awed by natured diversity. Notice that it lacks the long legs and neck of the Great Blue Heron. Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
This young one never moved except to keep its eye(s) on my doings. It was resting at a small waterfall across from Lincoln Park’s South Pond. I do not believe it would have found any fish in this small water area. It would have had better luck hunting the large water ways just behind it; but they are known to home in areas that sometimes have dried up water holes. Yellow-crowned Night Heron’s diet is crustaceans instead of fish like other Herons. Perhaps it was looking for a place to nap; Yellow-crowned Night Heron’s feed during the day or night.
