It’s not ususual for a deiduous tree to resume it’s growth with a floral display before leaves emerge. But I’m still getting used to such behavior in the warm, subtropical climate of South Florida. Here, a Plumeria, aka Frangipani, awakens with it’s incredible lush blossoms. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergPlumeria blooms come in a variety of rich colors. They are native to the Caribbean basin. Yet they are the favorite element of Hawaiian leis, symbolizing love, beauty ,and romance. Flowers form on the bare woody stems. Unlike most deiduous stems, they contain green chlorophyll, allowing photosynthesis during dormant months. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergWorthy of a closeup portrait: Plumeria in bloom.
