Butterflies can have completely different design, patterns, and color on their inner side of their wings and outer side of their wings, making identification trickier at times. This is a pair of Black Swallowtails (Papilio polyxenes) most probably after mating. They were very much alive although at first I believed them to be dead. A good coincidence that one had their wings open and the other closed so easy to see both at one time.
