Simple, yet not simple…

All they need to survive is water and light. Sounds simple. Yet what plants are able to do with water and air is nothing less than a miracle. And we think we’re so smart. Air Plants (Tillandsia) in the subtropics are found on trees where they can easily soak up the sunlight and rainwaters. This “diet” along with some nutrients in the air and water are all they need to make their own food for sustenance.  Other plants use the soil to anchor themselves; but Air Plants don’t care about that issue. Air Plants and, indeed, all plants are living intelligent creatures that deserve more respect. I have long suggested to vegans that they need to realize that plants are living, caring, thinking, creatures too. I recently read The Light Eaters by Zoe Schlanger; See more here.a book meant for this retired science teacher to absorb. I don’t believe I’ve ever recommended a book before in this blog, but this one might open one’s heart to plants’ lives. Ponder the genius and wonders of the plant world as you choose your diet. We all need to eat something that was alive in order for us to live; please remove “plants don’t feel” from the choice of food argument. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
