This pure white flower, Pinwheel Flower (Tabernaemontana divaricata) grows on an evergreen shrub. Flower petals form in a pinwheel shape, bringing to mind childhood playtime. Leaves are glossy green. Stems when bent leak a milky sap; so another common name is Milk Flower. This Asian native was at Morikami Gardens in South Florida. Waxy blooms emit fragrance lending more nicknames of Crape Jasmine and East India Rosebay. Choose the name that suits your imagination today. I’ll stick with Pinwheel Flower today.
