Each beachwalk is like a new treasure hunt. This morning, the beach is rich with a mixture of coral, sponge, shells, seaweed and possibly Sea Turtle shells. There were actually a number of soft opened shells strewn along my beach walk that morning. I’m not sure if they were remnants of hatchings that Gulls dug up or ……. but I never saw this before on the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale. The ocean side of Florida has smaller shells while the west Gulf coast has gentler waters, allowing larger shells to collect on shore. Here, the hunting usually takes more work. I find my treasure hunts here more adventurous because the shore collections ever change. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergA rare treasure load landed on the beach today. It is suggested to use gloves or sticks to sort through the pile to avoid Sand Fleas that might bite.
