I did a double take when I saw this flower fairly low in the tree. I know this tree as a Tulip Tree but it isn’t the time of year for it to bloom; and the flower was the right color but different. Turns out this bright yellow flower is on the Golden Chalice Vine (Solandra maxima) which can climb up to 165 tall on a tree. Compare to my post on the African Tulip Tree flowers here. Copyright 2024 Pamela BreitbergThe glossy leaves of the Golden Chalice Vine also revealed that this plant was not of the Tulip Tree that it climbed. Other nicknames for this flowering vine are Cup of Gold Vine and Hawaiian Lily. I don’t really understand how it got the former name since its origins are Mexico and Central America. This Golden Chalice rests on a bed of grass after it has fallen. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
