Rust has always been taboo for one’s health. Rusty Foxglove (Digitalis ferruginea) is no exception; all parts of the plant is poisonous. Nestled in Lurie Garden, this European native does stand out in the prairie-like setting. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
Rising up to four feet in height, Rusty Foxglove easily draws attention to itself. Although highly poisonous, chemicals from the plant have been used to treat heart failure. I can’t help but wonder who figured out this use of such a deadly plant! Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg

Beauty can be deceiving
