Up and down the continuous beach in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida are Dunes with seawater tolerant plantlife. Many volunteers planted these dunes over the past six years and they are rapidly maturing. The Dunes‘ purpose? To help control beach erosion which includes sand coming inland during Hurricane and Tropical Storm seasons. The great news is that it’s working! The wind blown sands are caught and held by the plants slowly creating the hilly terrain one thinks of for Dunes. It’s all good; using nature to do their thing is great!
