Small habitats…

When is a tree more than a tree: usually. Air Plants growing grandly on a tree are often evidenced in Southern, subtropical states. Air is humid, making an ideal environment for Air Plants. Copyright 2026 Pamela Breitberg
As trees mature and branches become thick they collect debris from seasons of falling leaves, and blown litter which in turn create mini-habitats for plant and animal life. Copyright 2026 Pamela Breitberg
In Southern Florida some tree life is not “friendly”. Strangler Figs begin as seeds that land up on a tree and begin to grow. Roots grow down to the soil and beome established sending out more roots and growth. Eventually these seeds are established enough that they choke their host tree. The tree in this image may be sharing space with a mature vine or perhaps being slowly chocked out by a Strangler Fig. Copyright 2026 Pamela Breitberg

All kinds of neighbors

Call a tree their home, some are

Friendly, others not.
