Big like Hercules…

Large like Hercules, hence the scientific name for Cow Parsnip is Heracleum maximum. It’s named Cow Parsnip because its a favorite food for grazing cattle as well as bear and other large roaming animals. Yet it’s also a favorite for some butterflies! This giant native is justly treasured. Copyright 2026 Pamela Breitberg
Rising high enough for me to look up at the blooms of this native through the fence at the Jarvis Bird Sanctuary. I am humbled. Copyright 2026 Pamela Breitberg
