Spotting this Red Clover (Trifolium pretense) brought back childhood memories. As kids we would gently pull a petal from the base and suck the teeny bit of sweetness, similar to honey, from it’s base. Obviously it was no meal, but indeed it was a summer treat. I have no memory of where we learned this sweet secret, but I can’t pass a patch of Red Clover without wanted to take a taste. Copyright 2019 Pamela Breitberg
