I stopped in my tracks last week on a neighborhood walk. I am used to seeing plants that a Midwesterner considers “houseplants” growing larger and denser in an outdoor subtropical environment. But this Philodendrum (possibly Philodendra Araceae) exceeded other houseplant growth I’d seen before. It had thick, well established roots and leaves larger than my head. The plants’ leaves I grew at home might reach 4 inches across. Copyright 2021 Pamela BreitbergWhen Philodendron are unencumbered in a subtropical environment they certainly appear happy and at home.
