Guardians and Monks…

Watching us eat breakfast recently were three Monk Parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus) of Ft. Lauderdale. These South American immigrants make their presence known by their loud parrot squawkings. This morning they showed themselves while they usually hide in the Palms and dare you to find them. Copyright 2022
The Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus) casually circling in large numbers has the misnomer of being a bad omen. Some cultures believe instead that seeing a Black Vulture is a good omen. They are seen as guardians; they protect you during a time of change. They fly in flocks to enjoy the warm air thermals. Hunting is usually done alone or in small groups. I will accept, during these unusual times, that their presence signals renewal and protection. Any such postive signs are welcome here. Copyright 2022 Pamela Breitberg

  1. I thought vultures circled over the head of animals they considered about to expire, so they could be first in for the feed . I cant think of much worse luck than that, and having a vulture signalling my end like that is just beyond the pale.
