This is Chicago. It is one of the migratory bird sanctuaries scattered throughout Lincoln Park; this one at Belmont Harbor. Peeking my lens through the fence I was able to capture this image. The area is fenced off to protect the wildlife but nicely the native planting surround the outside of the sanctuary. Trillium in bloom are the white flowers in this scene. Six years ago we moved from a home adjoining a piece of Forest Preserve into the heart of the city of Chicago. My only criteria was to be close to someplace “green”. I do miss the deer that used to visit our garden. But Lincoln Park is an incredible haven for both people and wildlife. Walking around the outskirts of the migratory bird sanctuary, through the native woodland area, renews my spirit. It is a place enjoyed by many, but also an easy place to just find quiet solace when needed.
I knew I found the right new home when I learned a woodland sanctuary was so nearby. Here native Trillium are in bloom on the woodland floor. They used to be the first item on my list to see on my springtime bicycle rides through the Forest Preserve.
