Tulips in the winter sky…

Winter brings the blooms of the African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata). High up in the sky, yellow clusters of flowers bloom on top of the leaves.  Florida doesn’t see the dull grey skies of the Midwest during winter days; but these blooms are still refreshing and a welcome sight. This cluster was a mere 15-20 feet above me allowing me this closer view of the Tulip Tree flowers. The African Tulip Tree grows 50-60 feet tall and equally wide; it requires it’s own space and usually is not appropriate for home gardens. The Evergreen leaves and the tree’s overall large spanse make it a clear choice for those wanting a shady setting. Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
The African Tulip Tree is one more reason to occasionaly look upwards when enjoying the outdoors. Here the boat-shaped fruit has formed after flowering. Read more here. Copyright 2023 Pamela Breitberg
