This is the hidden gem inside Lincoln Park; the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool. Designated a National Landmark in 2006 after careful restoration in 2003 based on Caldwell’s 1950’s earlier restoration designs it is a real treasure. Copyright 2023 Pamela BreitbergIn the center of the Lily Pool site is a pavillion offering space to sit, relax and soak up the nature. Alfred Caldwell was a landscape architect born in my home town of St. Louis. Copyright 2023 Pamela BreitbergThe Caldwell Lily Pool is home to native plants as well as wildlife. Look carefully at the far side of the pool and you’ll spot a Great Blue Heron (more images of it shall follow in the few days). Copyright 2023 Pamela BreitbergJust beautiful; the Lily Pool causes one to stop, take a refreshing breath and have some quiet moments inside this otherwise bustling city area.A walk around the pond is doable by almost everyone and includes accessible ramps and pathways. Copyright 2023 Pamela BreitbergA gentle waterfall, just outside this image on the right flows into the pond. Stone pathways lead one over the waters and around the outskirts of the Lily Pool. This spot is a hidden gem so its a good bet you will be only one of a handful of persons inside the area when you visit. This secret respit makes it even more of a treasure.
