Sensitive and irregular…

This short plant captured my attention; it seemed to scream for a little attention at the edge of the restored prairies in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Turns out its a native annual prairie survivor: Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata). Until today, I didn’t realize some prairie species are annuals. Nicknamed Sensitive Plant, the leaves tend to fold inward when touched. This plant is special to me; a person who loves uniqueness, the flowers’ petals shapes are irregular and nonstandard.
