This image betrays the post’s title. The flowers mislead one when learning the plant’s name. The small violet flowers of the Blue Snake Weed (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis) have begun falling from their long, snake-like dangling spikes. Individual flowers and moss carpet the coral walkway in damp Southern Florida. The artist in me was attracted to the colors and patterns of the miniature scene. It grows like a small shrub and often found in disturbed areas like roadways; this plant was in a garden setting, purposely planted. What caught my eye were the fallen flowers. Otherwise, I believe I would have ignored this one. Each living thing does deserves its time in the spotlight.
